What's on offer:

The University of Wollongong (UOW) Tax Clinic Community Tax Literacy outreach program aims to address critical gaps in tax and financial literacy by providing practical, real-world education to members of the community and UOW students. Financial and tax literacy are essential life skills, influencing everyday decisions from employment and income to consumption and access to government services. However, many people have a limited understanding of how the taxation system works.

The UOW Tax Clinic supports individuals and small businesses across the region experiencing financial, social, or personal hardship. Vulnerability may include low income, financial hardship, mental and physical health, victim of domestic or financial abuse, remote communities and more. To be eligible for the program, you will be unable to access tax assistance due to vulnerability - economic, social or personal factors; not be currently not represented by a tax professional; and be a an Australian citizen or permanent resident. You are also eligible if you are a current enrolled UOW student. To find out more and if you are eligible, please visit: https://www.uow.edu.au/tax-clinic/.

The UOW Community Outreach Program is delivered by UOW accounting students and staff and focuses on two key areas: setting up and using myGov services, and understanding and lodging an Individual Tax Return. Through interactive workshops, demonstrations, and guided activities, the program aims to build confidence and better prepare participants for their tax obligations.

Please note this event is for basic individual tax return support. Please reach out to the organisers if you are vulnerable and require support with small business tax. If you have more complex tax - CGT, GST, rentals, investment, etc., we suggest you reach out to a professional accounting firm.
