HSC Subject Support in-person theory and lab: Physics Intensive
Description

An understanding of the nature of light is crucial to success in the HSC Physics course. As you journey through Modules 7 and 8, you are introduced to how our understanding of light has changed over time. In Physics, the light from excited gases, filaments and celestial objects is examined to gain a deeper knowledge of the source of the light, its properties and its motion. Using spectroscopy, individual wavelengths of light can be investigated and analysed, this is paramount to mastering the astronomy related content from Module 7 - The Nature of Light. To understand the mechanisms that drive the production of different spectra, an advanced knowledge of the atom is required, especially the work of Niels Bohr for Module 8 - From the Universe to the Atom. This course will expose you to experimental techniques that are not readily available in a high school environment and introduce you to a tertiary style of learning. There will be a 2 hour theory session with a 45 minute break, followed by a 2 hour practical lab session in our Physics labs.
